State of the City
Cupertino Mayor Liang Chao will address the 2025 State of the City on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Quinlan Community Center. A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the mayor’s address at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Pascal Lee, a planetary scientist with the SETI Institute, will discuss exploring the moon and Mars at a Silicon Valley Reads program set for Feb. 8, 11 a.m.-noon, at the Cupertino Library. Lee will guide the audience through current and emerging plans to return to the moon and journey on to Mars.
The theme for the 2025 Silicon Valley Reads is “Empowering Humanity: Technology for a Better World.” Throughout February and March, Silicon Valley Reads will offer over 150 free events in partnership with schools, libraries, and community organizations across Santa Clara County.

Funding water projects
Valley Water is accepting applications for its Standard Grant Program for community projects that promote safe, clean drinking water, water conservation, flood protection and environmental stewardship in Santa Clara County.
The 2025 Standard Grant Program offers up to $150,000 for educational projects; planning, design and environmental resource investigations; and smaller-scale implementation or capital projects focused on issues like pollution, water conservation and minor native habitat restoration. Applications are due by March 28.
Valley Water is hosting a Standard Grant Program Open House on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 9-11:30 a.m., at Valley Water Headquarters, 5700 Almaden Expressway, San Jose. Virtual workshops are set for Tuesday, Feb. 18, noon-1:30 p.m., and Thursday, Feb. 27, 5-6:30 p.m.
