It’s Christmas in June for South Bay nonprofits

Valle Monte League is using the $292,800 it raised at its 2024 Christmas Tree Elegance event to support mental health programs. The San Jose nonprofit will equally distribute the funds to mental health agencies Centre for Living with Dying – Bill Wilson Center, Hearts & Minds Activity Center and Caminar Family & Children Services.

The monies will support programs that directly address mental health needs in the community. By investing in these nonprofits, Valle Monte League aims to strengthen community-based resources, increase accessibility to mental health care and raise awareness about mental health issues.

“Valle Monte League’s fundraising success allows us to make a significant impact in our community,” league president Sara Tavernise said in a release. “We are committed to supporting mental health initiatives and enhancing the lives of those affected.”

“In our partnership (with Valle Monte League), we believe that we are coming closer to providing vital mental health resources,” said Maria Nicolacoudis, CEO of Hearts and Minds Activity Center.

While Valle Monte League has expanded its reach since it was established in 1950 specifically to raise funds for a selected licensed mental health agency, the  nonprofit continues to operate without an office and with no paid administrator, but with a volunteer base of 130 women.
