San Jose: The last (and first) HoM Korean Kitchen closes its doors

The original HoM Korean Kitchen, a chef-driven concept that spawned a small Bay Area chain, has shuttered in downtown San Jose.

The “build your own bowl” fast-casual eatery made its debut in 2015, then expanded over the years under new owners to Cupertino, Santa Cruz, Redwood City and San Francisco.

At HoM locations, customers would pick a base (toasted, mixed grains or steamed white rice, or salad greens), then a protein (Korean steak, spicy pork, braised beef, barbecue chicken, organic tofu) and three chilled sides (banchan) from 11 vegetable choices. The restaurant used no MSG and no preservatives.

The San Jose location at 76 E. Santa Clara St., which offered late-night hours for club-goers, was the last in the group to close.
