Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week: Shirina Shi, American basketball

American basketball player Shirina Shi is the Bay Area News Group girls high school athlete of the week for Jan. 6-11.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Shi finished with 45.88% of the vote. Acalanes basketball player Ariana Hallstrom took second with 32.25%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Shi, a sophomore, scored 35 points to lead American to a 68-55 win over Mission San Jose as the Eagles improved to 12-2 and 3-1 in MVAL play.
