The Saratoga Library is hosting  author Sonia Gomez on Saturday Jan. 25, for a discussion of her book “Picture Bride, War Bride: The Role of Marriage in Shaping Japanese America.”

Gomez will discuss how the book came about and will questions from audience members, in addition to signing books. Her book tells the story of Japanese women who came to the United States in the early 20th century and after World War II.

The event will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Saratoga Library’s Maple Room.

Help beautify Quarry park

Saratoga parks and recreation commissioners are inviting the community to help beautify Quarry Park and its trails on Saturday, Jan. 25, 9 a.m.-noon.

Organizers are asking volunteers to register in advance at saratoga.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=53318. Supplies will be provided. Youth volunteers ages 10-14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Volunteers can meet at the park at 22000 Congress Springs Road on Jan. 25 at 9 a.m.
