It may sound like a seaside college campus, but Crab Tech is actually the name for a team of volunteers who will be on hand Feb. 1 to troubleshoot any glitches attendees at the Los Gatos Rotary’s annual Crab Fest and Auction have with their online auction bids.

The “crabonanza” is set for 1, 5-9 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga. Organizer Rachelle Lopp suggests getting tickets now at https://events.readysetauction.com/rotaryclublosgatos/crabfest2025, as they go fast.
“It’s a great deal for crab lovers; $90 gets you unlimited crab, salad, soup and dessert, Lopp says. “It’s a big volunteer effort. Besides Rotarians, we have Los Gatos Cub Scouts cleaning crab and high school volunteers serving food. This is our major fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the Los Gatos Rotary Charities Foundation that awards grants to local and high-need global organizations.”
As for the Kiwanis Club of Los Gatos, Nancy Pearson reports, “Our holiday market was a huge success, despite horrible weather. Enough money was raised to support our youth leadership and community service clubs at the local schools and benefit the Live Oak Senior Nutrition and Services Center to the tune of a $5,000 donation.
The Kiwanis just started a public hiking program called “Weekend Warriors with a Cause.”
“These monthly hikes on the second Saturday of each month involve fun, fitness, and a worthy cause,” Pearson says.
The next hike is set for Feb. 8, 10:30 am-noon, Hikers can gather at Forbes Mill Annex, 75 Church St., and are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate. www.lgkiwanis.org
The Oscar-winning movie “Chariots of Fire” will be the next Monday Morning Movie on Feb. 3, 10:30 am at the Los Gatos Theatre. Los Gatos Thrives Foundation board member Tim Lundell says, “Our movies have raised helpful funds, but more importantly, generated a lot of interest and support for our new community center project.”
It’s open seating, and tickets are $10 at the door or at losgatosthrives.org. Coffee and pastries come with the show.
