World War II era hand grenades found at Pleasant Hill home removed and disposed

PLEASANT Hill — Some World War II era hand grenades found at a home here Wednesday were subsequently removed and disposed of by explosives personnel, authorities said.

The grenades — police did not say exactly how many — were found about 1:27 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 1700 block of Shirley Drive during a house cleaning.

Pleasant Hill police were immediately notified. They requested the assistance of the Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad and the United State Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield to respond and assist in their safe removal and disposal.

No residents in the area were evacuated and the home was cleared by 6 p.m., police said.

Police Lt. Brian Leonard recommended that anyone who finds similar items not touch or handle them and notify law enforcement immediately.
