Safe Routes seeks student artists for contest

The art of safety

Cupertino’s Safe Routes to School program is holding a Streetlight Banner Design Contest, inviting high school students in Cupertino to create banners that will promote several key city transportation programs. Winning designs will be displayed on streetlights along De Anza Boulevard, Stevens Creek Boulevard and Stelling Road.

Deadline for design submissions is Feb. 28 Visit the Cupertino Safe Routes to School website for more information at cupertino.gov/saferoutes/bannercon.

Funding shuttle expansion

The city of Cupertino has received a reimbursement check of $1.131 million from the state for the first year of its Silicon Valley Hopper Santa Clara expansion. This marks the first check from a $8.465 million Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program grant, which will support 50% of the hopper shuttle expansion  through fiscal year 2026-27.

Additionally, in collaboration with the city of Santa Clara, Cupertino secured $500,000 from the Transportation Fund for Clean Air Program, managed by the Valley Transportation Authority. This funding is designated for fiscal year 2025-26, the third year of the hopper program; the two cities will share this award in line with their cost-sharing agreement.
