Around 4 p.m., officers were called to the 900 block of 92nd Avenue for a report of a man pointing a firearm at people in the area, according to the Oakland Police Department.

When officers tried to detain the man, he pointed the gun at them and both sides fired shots, Assistant Police Chief James Beere said in a statement posted to social media.

The man ran from the scene. Officers found him at a second location and more shots were fired, according to Beere.

Beere said the man was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave. They have not been identified.

Criminal and administrative investigations are underway, according to police. In addition, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the Community Police Review Agency are conducting independent probes.

Additional details about the shooting were not immediately available Monday night.
