For more than an hour, he called for help as he was tortured to death in a California jail. ‘No one came,’ his family says.

The incident began after a 911 caller reported seeing a kidnapping involving a black Hyundai Sonata around 4:55 p.m., police Lt. Nick Sprecco said in a news release.

A pursuit began after the car was spotted by officers near Madison and Magnolia avenues, Sprecco said. The chase weaved its way through El Cajon and Spring Valley before returning to El Cajon on Interstate 8.

The Sonata crashed into two other vehicles on Mollison Avenue, and officers used a Taser to subdue the driver, police said.

The driver was taken into custody. His name was not released.

While searching the car, a woman’s body was found. Her name and cause of death were not immediately available, Lt. Joe Crawford said.

The other involved drivers were not injured.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the incident to call El Cajon police at 619-579-3311 or anonymously at sdcrimestoppers.org.
