Tea party takes

Three Mountain View students were named winners in the annual American History Video Contest sponsored by the Los Altos Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Emory Rodgers and Nathanial Yu of Graham Middle School and Meital Zayats of Mountain View High School shared their videos at a Feb. 21 DAR meeting. They each received a medal, certificate and $200 cash prize.

The contest was judged by DAR member and film producer Blessing Joao, local actor and filmmaker Tony Janick and Los Altos History Museum Executive Director Anna Toledano.

The videos all went on to win at the California DAR District level, and Zayats’ entry won at California DAR State level. His video will now compete with entries from several states at the DAR Division level and, if selected as winners, will move on to the national competition.

The students’ work addressed the theme “Enjoying a new kind of Tea Party,” about the pre-Revolutionary War protests by the Colonists against the British.

Entries for this year’s contest are due by early November, and the year’s theme will be announced around August. For more information, visit https://losaltos.californiadar.org in September or email [email protected].

Compassionate chef

Allen Isik of Barbayani Greek Taverna in Los Altos is one of three celebrity chefs competing in the 14th annual Chefs of Compassion, a fundraiser for West Valley Community Services (WVCS). The chefs will serve dishes at the March 28 event created entirely from ingredients from the WVCS pantry, which normally provides food to the Cupertino-based nonprofit’s clients. . A panel of judges will name the winner, and attendees will choose their favorite.

Chefs of Compassion is set for 6 p.m. at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. Tickets are $185 at https://www.chefsofcompassion.org/tickets/2025.
