Cupertino’s Inner Wheel celebrates 40th anniversary

Wheels up

The Inner Wheel Club of Cupertino was recently honored for 40 years of service. Gloria Vasconcellos, national president of Inner Wheel USA, presented club members with a certificate of recognition.

The Cupertino club, one of 28 across the U.S., raises money for the Inner Wheel USA Foundation’s Myoelectric Limb Project as well as for local charities.

The project provides a variety of prosthetics to children under age 18 who have lost an arm or a hand. The foundation partners exclusively with Hanger Clinic, a national provider of prosthetics and orthotic care, to assist children with upper body limb loss.

“Through our national fundraising efforts, we’ve able to provide new prosthetics to more than 100 children who could not otherwise pay for them,” said Nancy Harper, president of the Cupertino club, in a release.

The foundation also supports the nonprofit Camp No Limits for children with limb differences in multiple states, including Big Bear in California. It also provides life skills for the children such as cooking and dressing, as well as physical therapy.

“When kids arrive at Camp No Limits, they realize, ‘Hey, everybody here looks like me,’” Harper said. “It’s very empowering for them and for their families.”
