The fire happened at about 4 a.m. Sunday in the vacant building at 100 Yacht Club Drive in the Canal neighborhood. Crews arrived to see the flames burning on the south side of the building and spreading to the interior, said Deputy Chief Robert Sinnott of the San Rafael Fire Department.

Firefighters controlled the flames within 15 minutes, Sinnott said. A sprinkler prevented the fire from reaching the kitchen area.

Sinnott said investigators found an empty gasoline container near the scene and detected a gasoline odor, suggesting the fire was set intentionally.

No injuries were reported. A damage estimate was unavailable.

Terrapin Crossroads, founded by the former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, closed in 2021 after operating for nearly 10 years. Lesh died in October at age 84.
