SAN LEANDRO — At least one person died, and five other people were rushed to a hospital early Thursday after a fire broke out at a home, authorities said.
Officials with the Alameda County Fire Department said originally that a 6-year-old child died in the blaze but that confusion later emerged regarding the fatality. At 8:30 a.m., it was unknown who had perished in the fire.

Alameda County Fire crews were called to the 2000 block of Altamont Road near Darius Way about 5:25 a.m., according to fire spokesperson Cheryl Hurd.
Three of the five people taken by ambulance to a hospital were not 18 years old, Hurd said in a statement.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office also sent several deputies to the scene.
