Saratoga Library, area churches are hosting public events this month

Looking for activities and events in Saratoga? Here’s the roundup for events happening in the city:

Aspire Saratoga
Saturday, March 15, 6 p.m. at Saratoga Federated Church

This three-hour event is open to all women and will feature three guest speakers: author and public speaker Melissa Spoelstra, comedian Kristin Weber-Kitty and singer-songwriter and worship leader Mia Koehne. Doors are scheduled to open at 5 p.m. Ticket prices range from $30 for general admission and $40 for VIP reserved. Attendees can also buy tickets in groups.

SVR: Comic Workshop for Teens with Author Wendy Xu
Sunday, March 16, 2 to 3 p.m. in the Maple Room of Saratoga Library, for children age 13 and up

Silicon Valley Reads will be hosting a comic workshop for teenagers with Wendy Xu, author of “Infinity Particle.” Xu will be talking briefly about her graphic novel, a teen selection for this year’s Silicon Valley Reads, and then lead a discussion and demonstration about how to make a comic. Participants will be able to draw their own four-panel comic.

Marching Through March with Saratoga Community Band
Monday, March 17, 7:30 p.m. in McAfee Center at Saratoga High School

The Saratoga Community Band will be playing a free concert themed around marches and St. Patrick’s Day. The program includes “El Relicario,” a paso doble by Jose Padilla; “National Emblem,” an Independence Day march by Edwin Bagley; and “The Minstrel Boy,” an Irish tune by Leroy Anderson. Although admission is free, the band is also accepting donations.

Financial Planning: What is the Most Tax-effective Withdrawal Strategy in Retirement?
Tuesday, March 18, 7 to 8 p.m.

Saratoga Library is hosting an online event with Certified Financial Planner Larysa Prytula, who will be advising retirees on tax consequences as they spend down their assets. She will specifically discuss “how to minimize the impact of taxes on your portfolio and extend the life of your assets,” according to the library website.

Travel Program: Discovery America on the Back Roads
Tuesday, March 18, 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. in the Maple Room of Saratoga Library

Photographer Pam Perkins and her husband Bruce Berger will be talking about their six-week trip from California to Maine and their photos of “lesser-known sights, events, parks and people,” according to the library’s website.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Concert Series
Thursday, March 20, 7-9 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal

Vincent Dubois, organist at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris, will be playing at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Although the event is free, guests are encouraged to donate $25 per person at the door. The money will go to the St. Andrew’s Community Grants fund, which is distributed out to different nonprofits in Santa Clara County that deal with hunger, homelessness, illness, incarceration and supporting children.
