SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks have signed college free agent and left-shot defenseman Noah Beck to a one-year entry-level contract for next season.

Beck’s deal, per PuckPedia, carries a $975,000 salary cap hit at the NHL level. He is expected to to join the San Jose Barracuda on an amateur tryout for the rest of this season.

Beck, who turned 24 on Tuesday, spent this past season as a graduate student at Arizona State. There, he scored 33 points in 37 games for the Sun Devils and was a second-team All-NCHC selection.

Beck, listed at 6-foot-3 and 206 pounds, was a seventh-round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2020. He then spent four seasons at Clarkson University from 2020 to 2024 and had 56 points in 124 games.

According to Beck’s agent, Ryan Barnes, the Sharks were interested in signing the defenseman last year after his final year at Clarkson. Beck decided to continue his collegiate career, but that prior relationship helped the Sharks land the Richmond Hill, Ontario native this year, with three or four other NHL teams also interested.

It was not immediately clear when Beck would be able to join the Barracuda, who play on Wednesday in San Diego. The team then returns home to play Abbotsford on Friday and Saturday and Ontario on Wednesday to complete its homestand.

The Barracuda entered this week in fifth place in the AHL’s Pacific Division with 72 points, just four points behind second-place Ontario with 11 games remaining.
