Watch: 2025 Silicon Valley Index report examines contradictions of region

The newly released 2025 Silicon Valley Index report uncovers the contradictions of the region: surging investment in Silicon Valley’s innovation engine, and intensifying wealth disparities and an affordable housing crisis.

The survey from Joint Venture Silicon Valley presented on Mar. 6 at San Jose State University examined these issues and more.

“In Silicon Valley, 37 percent of our children are in households living below self-sufficiency,” Joint Venture CEO Russell Hancock said in his community briefing. He also showed the effect of inflation on the Valley’s residents — and swelling costs of childcare and transportation.

Here are other key findings from the report:

Silicon Valley’s inequality gap is growing twice as fast as in rest of U.S.
The 9 wealthiest Silicon Valley households have 15 times more wealth than the bottom half of their neighbors
Job gains in Silicon Valley grind to halt — but personal income hops higher

The Silicon Valley Index is released every February and includes research and indicators that measure the status of South Bay economies.
