OAKLAND — A rare shooting in the Oakland Hills early Wednesday hospitalized a man, authorities said.

The gunfire happened about 9:10 a.m. in the 1900 block of Cortereal Avenue in the Montclair District, authorities said. An ambulance took the man to a hospital. Authorities did not have an update on his condition.
According to police, the man had been walking on the Montclair Railroad Trail and had exited on Cortereal Avenue and was headed toward his home on another street a short distance away. It was unclear what caused the shooting, and police did not confirm immediately reports that the shooting was tied to a robbery.
Police said the man was shot at least twice. They did not announce any arrests.
