Authorities identify double homicide victims in Santa Cruz Mountains

LOS GATOS — Santa Clara County authorities have shared the identities and causes of death of the two men that were found last week in an abandoned pickup truck in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office confirmed the decedents are 53-year-old Colter White and 45-year-old Sean Pfeffer, both of Boulder Creek. White died from gunshot wounds to the torso and left upper and lower extremities, while Pfeffer was killed by a gunshot wound to the left chest.

The bodies of White and Pfeffer were discovered around 6:50 p.m. March 24 at a pullout on the east side of Skyline Boulevard near Oak Ridge Road, which is about three miles south of Castle Rock State Park.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident as a homicide, but did not say Thursday if any suspects had been identified.

“The California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Division Special Investigations Unit is actively investigating this incident and is currently pursuing all leads received or developed,” a spokesperson for the law enforcement agency wrote in an email to the Sentinel. “While I am unable to provide specific information regarding the investigation at this time, I can say that this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”

It appears Pfeffer and White knew each other, as Pfeffer referred to White as a friend in a Facebook post from last July depicting a shed White had been building.
