BRENTWOOD — With current City Manager Tim Ogden set to leave for Sacramento County, the city of Brentwood is searching for his replacement.
After serving the city for the past five years, Ogden will leave his position on April 26.
As an interim city manager is expected to be appointed soon, the Brentwood City Council plans to outline a strategy for recruiting and selecting a new city manager.
Ogden is leaving the city to become the next general manager of the Cosumnes Community Services District. Located in Sacramento County, the district provides emergency medical, fire protection, and other services for residents.
“Brentwood will forever hold a treasured place in my heart, thanks to the residents who make it such a wonderful place to live, work, and enjoy the open space,” said Ogden in an email to this news organization.
Over the last five years, Ogden said he has enjoyed his time with staff and key stakeholders, implementing the directions of three mayors and seven other councilmembers.
According to Ogden, key highlights during his time with the city included managing the COVID-19 pandemic without laying off staff or implementing pay cuts, maintaining a 30% fund reserve, and assisting the consolidation of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District with the Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
Ogden’s efforts in support of the city council have resulted in numerous community engagement forums, the expansion of Sand Creek Road, which connects neighboring cities and aims to reduce traffic, the opening of Costco, La Quinta and Hawthorn Suites, Golden State Orthopedics, and the continued marketing and development of the Innovation Center at Brentwood to attract more job growth.
Ogden will start his new position on April 30 and plans to relocate to Elk Grove.
“I’ll oversee a budget of $160 million, with 390 full-time employees, ramping up to 700 with seasonal employees,” he said.
Brentwood Mayor Susannah Meyer thanked Ogden for his service to the community and wished him well in his new endeavors.
She noted that the Brentwood community is in “very good hands at all levels of staff,” adding that the values-driven work supporting residents will be sustained throughout this leadership transition.
“We are fully committed to the continuation of all city services as we navigate the process to bring in a new city manager,” said Meyer in a statement. “Our dedicated staff and team of directors have built an internal infrastructure that is prepared to withstand changes at any level, and we appreciate the community’s trust as we move forward together.”
