Monte Vista lacrosse player Ella Geernaert is the Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week for March 31-April 5.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Geernaert finished with 40.83% of the vote. Foothill softball player Myra Galzie placed second with 26.74%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Geernaert, a senior goalie, recorded a 76.9% save rate against Amador Valley, which led the Mustangs to an 8-6 victory. Geernaert collected 20 saves in Monte Vista’s win.
