Sue and John Diekman, longtime supporters of Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV), will be recognized as honorees at this year’s Fur Ball fundraiser on Saturday, May 10 at PayPal Park in San Jose.
In 2022 the Atherton couple donated $3 million to support and expand Humane Society Silicon Valley’s Regional Rescue Program, which was named in their honor. The program transports animals from overcrowded shelters across California to HSSV, where they have a better chance of being adopted. HSSV brings in about 4,000 animals every year through the program, which is more than half the number of animals it brings in overall.

“We love the Regional Rescue Program because of the significant impact it has both for the individual animals and the shelters they come from,” Sue Diekman said in 2022. “Watching the animals come off the Rescue Roadster and knowing that they have a better future is incredibly heartwarming.”
The Diekmans helped ensure a better future for their golden retriever Jeremy, who they adopted in 2015, Benny, a Regional Rescue lab mix they adopted in 2018.
“Sue and John are more than supporters; they are stewards of HSSV’s future,” HSSV President Kurt Krukenberg wrote in an email. “Their dedication and generosity not only strengthen our mission but also inspire others to invest in our lifesaving work, transforming the lives of thousands of animals and the people who love them.”
