BERKELEY — Fire crews worked to extinguish a one-alarm blaze early Monday that forced evacuations near the UC Berkeley campus, according to dispatchers and media reports.

The fire broke out about 3 a.m. in the 1900 block of Addison Street.
It was not known immediately how many residences were evacuated or whether it will force anyone to find new or temporary housing. Investigators were working to determine what caused the blaze.
