MORGAN HILL — Police officers here shot a man early Friday morning who was suspected of attacking someone at a Safeway grocery store.
The shooting happened shortly after 12:20 a.m., after police were called about a disturbance at the grocery store, located at 840 E. Dunne Ave. near downtown Morgan Hill.
Morgan Hill officers found a man there who was accused of attacking someone at the store, and they opened fire after his “subsequent actions caused officers to use force,” according to a press release by the police department.
The man was taken to a hospital, and he is expected to survive, police said. Once released, police planned to book him at the Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and resisting a police officer.
Details about how many officers used their guns, how many shots they fired or the condition of the man were not released Friday by the police department. A call Friday afternoon by this newspaper to the department’s media line was not immediately returned.
