Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from April 14-19.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.
On to the nominees:
Scott Baldwin, Castro Valley baseball: The senior scattered three hits, struck out four and allowed just one earned run in a complete game performance to lead Castro Valley to a 7-1 win over Berkeley. Castro Valley (14-4) travels to Piedmont on Wednesday.
Yosef Berhan, Piedmont Hills track and field: Berhan won the 800-meter race at the Granada Distance & Sprint Festival with a time of 1:57.10.
Darius Brown, California track and field: Brown, a sophomore, took first place in the 200-meter race at the California-Doughtery Valley dual meet with a time of 22.51.
Lorenzo Collazo, Lincoln-San Jose baseball: Collazo was 5 for 9, totaling seven RBIs, four runs scored and two stolen bases across two wins over Gilroy and a victory against San Jose. Lincoln is 15-4 this season.
Landon Comerford, Foothill baseball: Comerford had an RBI triple and scored the game-winning run in Foothill’s 8-7 win over Dublin. Foothill (14-4) is slated to host Granada on Wednesday.
Hunter Fujimoto, Valley Christian baseball: The senior’s three-run double helped lead Valley Christian to a 10-7 win over Archbishop Moeller in the All-Faiths Classic tournament final in Las Vegas. Valley Christian (15-4-1) is scheduled to play Washington-Fremont at home on Friday.
Mattheo LaCasia, Woodside track and field: LaCasia won the 400-meter race and recorded the 10th fastest time in Central Coast Section history at the CCS Top 8 meet with a time of 47.22.

Jaeden Pietrofeso, Mountain View baseball: Pietrofeso threw a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits in a 1-0 win over Homestead. The senior has won all five of his starts for Mountain View, which is 12-5.
Elliott Webb, Clayton Valley baseball: The senior pitched five scoreless innings and was 2 for 2 with a double to lead Clayton Valley to a 6-1 win over Alhambra. Clayton Valley (13-3) travels to College Park on Tuesday.
Chad Works-Wright, El Cerrito track and field: The sophomore crossed the finish line in 10.50 to win the 100-meter race at the Granada Distance & Sprint Festival.
