The workshop is open to people who live and work in areas served by the county fire department, including Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Monte Seren0, Saratoga and other unincorporated areas. It will be held on May 3 from 10a.m. to noon at the Joan Pisani Community Center.

There will be presentations on reducing wildfire risks, community readiness and emergency notification systems. Attendees will also create a wildfire action plan, assemble emergency kits and prepare for evacuations.

Several local agencies will be tabling at the event to share resources, including the American Red Cross, CalFire, pet and animal rescue and Firewise Community leaders.

For more information about the workshop, participants can check the Eventbrite link at https://bit.ly/42UM5lw. The event is free, but there is a waitlist.

Drinking in art

Visitors to Montalvo Arts Center will soon be able to sip from a ceramic drinking fountain that invites two people to drink at the same time while making eye contact.

California College of the Arts professor Nathan Lynch’s public artwork, “A Place for Meeting Strangers,” is due to be installed as part of Montalvo’s 2025 Marcus Exhibition entitled “When the World is Beautifully Strange.” Lynch won this year’s Marcus Commissioning Prize, awarded by Montalvo’s Lucas Artists Program, along with $40,000 to help him complete the work.

Lynch’s work as a sculptor, designer and performance artist heavily features collaboration and experimentation. Although he was raised in Washington, he spent a lot of time in Saratoga with his grandparents and visited Montalvo. According to Montalvo’s press release, “The contradictory environment of his youth in Pasco gave Lynch an acute sense of location and deep appreciation for irony.”

The Marcus Exhibition runs June 26-Nov. 9.
