OAKLAND — An alleged member of the Border Brothers gang has been charged with assaulting an officer by ramming his patrol car, court records show.
Juan Lujan, 22, was charged with one count of assault on a peace officer, stemming from a Jan. 17 incident when he allegedly rammed a motorcycle cop in Oakland, causing the officer’s motorcycle to fall on top of him. Lujan wasn’t charged until after an incident on April 14, when a car containing him and another suspected gang associate rammed a patrol officer, pinning the officer between the car and a parked vehicle, authorities said.
Lujan was a passenger in the April 14 incident. The suspected driver has not yet been arrested or charged, court records show. The officer was briefly hospitalized for his injuries, authorities said.
Lujan has not yet entered a plea and bailed out of jail, records show. His next court date has been set for April 29.
In the Jan. 17 incident, police were investigating a parked car in a driveway on 77th Avenue in East Oakland that appeared to match the description of a vehicle that had recently eluded police in a chase, authorities said in court records.
The parked car then sped from the driveway, knocking the motorcycle officer down in the process, police said. The officers reportedly recognized Lujan.
Prosecutors charged Lujan on April 15, after he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the April 14 ramming, court records show.
Just two days later, in an unrelated incident, another policeman in Oakland was deliberately struck by a vehicle, while inside his patrol car, authorities said. The suspect, a 25-year-old man, rammed an Oakland Housing Authority officer’s car, pushing it out of the way, and sped off. The officer was investigating a suspicious persons complaint in the area.
The suspect has not yet been charged, records show.
