SF Giants deliver walk-off win after celebrating Crawford’s legacy

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants began their afternoon by honoring the legacy of Brandon Crawford. They ended their afternoon by beating the Texas Rangers, 3-2, thanks to a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning by pinch-hitter Patrick Bailey.

San Francisco and Texas entered the ninth inning tied up at two runs apiece. Ryan Walker worked around back-to-back singles to start the inning and pitched a scoreless frame in the top of the ninth, setting up an opportunity for the offense to deliver a win.

Heliot Ramos began the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff single against Jacob Webb, then LaMonte Wade Jr. followed up with a walk to give the Giants runners on first and second with no outs. Those runners advanced 90 feet apiece when Christian Koss laid down a sacrifice bunt, putting runners on second and third with one out.

Giants manager Bob Melvin pinch-hit Sam Huff, the former Ranger, for Bailey; Rangers manager Bruce Bochy countered by bringing in left-handed reliever Jacob Latz. The move swung in Melvin’s favor. On the first pitch Bailey saw, he flipped a walk-off single into right field to drive in Ramos.

Robbie Ray turned in arguably his best start as a Giant, allowing two runs over seven innings with eight strikeouts, the first time he has completed seven innings with the orange and black. Ray’s 23 whiffs were the most induced by a Giants pitcher this season.

The Rangers scored a pair of runs against Ray in the first and third innings, but Willy Adames provided the equalizer in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run single. Adames is currently riding a five-game hitting streak and has recorded at least one hit in seven of his last eight games.
