She was in stable condition at a hospital.

The shooting, which activated a gunshot detection alert system, happened about 9:59 p.m. Monday in the 1800 block of 96th Avenue, a mostly residential area.

The woman told police she heard multiple gunshots and realized she had been wounded.  A friend drove her to a hospital.

More than 20 rifle casings were recovered at the scene, authorities said.

Authorities said there was a group of people who were also in the area and police are trying to determine if one of them was possibly the intended target and that the woman was hit by a stray bullet.  No one else was injured but a parked vehicle was hit by the gunfire.

Police have not said if they believe the shooter was in a vehicle or on foot.  A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made and no suspect information has been released.

Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426.
