The collision happened just after midnight on April 23, 2023, at the intersection of Berryessa and Piedmont roads, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release.
A beige 2007 Honda sedan was traveling westbound on Berryessa Road through the intersection when it was broadsided by a black 2015 Ford sport utility vehicle traveling southbound on Piedmont Road, Hernandez said, adding that the Ford had a green light.
The Honda was occupied by three men. The driver and one of the passengers fled the scene, leaving the other passenger unconscious inside the sedan, Hernandez said.
The man was taken to an area hospital, where he was later stabilized. However, he died of his injuries on April 26, Hernandez said. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
Hernandez said the man’s death is being counted as the city’s 50th traffic fatality of 2023.
The occupants of the Ford — a man, a woman and two boys — stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Hernandez said.
