Two United Airlines flights touch wingtips at San Francisco International Airport

Two United Airlines flights that were set to fly internationally out of San Francisco International Airport were cancelled Tuesday morning after the two planes touched wings, authorities said.

Nobody on either flight was injured. The collision happened when the two flights were in an area near a gate.

In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration said United Flight 863 heading to Sydney, Australia and United Flight 877 bound for Hong Kong were the two planes involved. Flight 863’s left wingtip collided with the right wingtip of Flight 877 about 12:35 a.m., the FAA said.

The FAA is investigating the incident, which the agency said happened “in an area where where air traffic controllers do not communicate with flight crews.”

No other details were released by the FAA. United Airlines did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
