Paging Francophiles and oenophiles: La Loulou wine bar opens in Oakland

A wine shop and bar with a name that’d be delightful to exclaim while lifting a petticoat has opened in Oakland.

La Loulou had its grand opening May 10 at 4250 Piedmont Ave. in a corner spot formerly occupied by a vacant real-estate office. The vibrantly colored bistro offers wines to take home or to enjoy at svelte banquettes and tables, plus a selection of Parisian-inspired snacks.

“I am focusing on French wines from all regions, but mostly Loire, Bourgogne, Champagne, Languedoc and Bordeaux,” says owner Lou Beraud. “We have available a raclette sandwich, homemade asparagus quiche, a cheese-and-charcuterie board as well as macarons for dessert.”

Beverages of the moment are listed on a chalkboard divided into sections of white, red, rose, orange, bubbles, beer and non-alcoholic. Available by the glass or bottle, a recent selection included Château de Bligny Champagne ($20/$59), Sancerre Millet Loire ($18/$59), La Grande Clotte Bordeaux ($17/$51) and zero-proof Ribo Sparkling Alsace ($11/$33). A flight of any three wines costs $17, and there’s a wine club that customers can join.

“For the bottle list, people can pick anything they want off the shelves because we retail, too,” says Beraud.

The bites include a small or large cheese-and-charcuterie board ($18/$27), a raclette sandwich ($12), vegetarian quiche ($16) and warm or spiced nuts ($9). For something sweet, there are those marcarons for $9 a trio.

Details: Open 2 p.m.-10 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday at 4250 Piedmont Ave., Oakland; laloulouwinebar.com, instagram.com/laloulouwine
