Map: Where there are speed cameras in San Francisco

Dozens of speed cameras have been installed in San Francisco as part of a pilot program allowing ticketing of drivers without an officer’s presence.

The map above shows the approximate locations of 33 cameras as of May 2025, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

The agency said that in the first month of the program — when warnings rather than tickets were issued — more than 1,000 speeders were detected each day, on average.

A stretch of Fulton Street at Golden Gate Park’s northeast corner accounted for 44% of those violations, according to agency data. The next highest number was from Geary Boulevard in Japantown.

After testing and a grace period, citations will be issued starting in August 2025, an SFMTA spokesperson said. Penalties will start at $50 for speeds 11-16 mph over the limit and will go up to $500.

The 2023 passage of Assembly Bill 645 authorized speed cameras in six California cities: San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Los Angeles, Long Beach and Glendale.
