Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week: Lelani Laruelle, Monta Vista track and field

Monta Vista track and field athlete Lelani Laruelle is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for May 26-31.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Laruelle finished with 66% of the vote. Alhambra softball player Hailey Powers took second, and Miramonte softball player Abby Warren was third.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Laruelle cleared 5-7 to win the high jump at the state meet in a tie for first place with Jurupa Valley’s AB Hernandez and Long Beach Wilson’s Jillene Wetteland.

These are the final athlete of the week results of the school year.
