BERKELEY — A person entered BART trackways on Monday morning and was later taken away in an ambulance, an incident that caused a major delay on of its transit lines, officials said.

According to BART officials, the person went onto the tracks at the North Berkeley station about 10 a.m. and “may have been involved in a collision with a train,” BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said.

The collision closed down the station for about an hour and shut down BART’s red line from Richmond to the Millbrae in both directions.

Commuters from Richmond still were able to access the San Francisco Airport by boarding a Berryessa-bound train and transferring to a yellow line.

The station re-opened just after 11 a.m., as was the red-line service, Filippi said.

Officials did not have an update on the condition of the person who was on the tracks.
