Firefighters were working Monday afternoon to contain a 50-acre blaze that ignited in the remote area just east of Fremont, according to Cal Fire.
Fire officials providing an air attack said the Mission Fire has the potential to reach 75 acres. It was first reported around 1:30 p.m. near the 3500 block of Morrison Canyon Road.
Cal Fire and the Alameda County Fire Department have provided a ground and air response, sending multiple fire engines, three bulldozers, helicopters and two air tankers to the fire. There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage to structures.
Cal Fire announced at 3:06 p.m. that forward progress on the fire had been stopped at 70 acres and contained at 25%.
