Fatal shooting Friday night is Oakland’s 37th homicide

OAKLAND — A 33-year-old man was fatally shot in the San Antonio district Friday night, authorities said.

The name of the man, an Oakland resident, has not been released pending notification of his family. The shooting, which prompted the activation of a gunshot detection alert system, happened about 9:37 p.m. Friday in the 2100 block of International Boulevard.

Police said the man was sitting in his parked vehicle when an unknown number of suspects began shooting at him from outside.

Despite being wounded he was able to drive westbound on International Boulevard before crashing in the 1400 block of International Boulevard. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Police have not released a motive yet for the killing. No arrests have been announced and no suspect information has been released.

The killing is the 37th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 47 homicides in the city.

Anyone with information about the killing may call homicide investigators at 510-238-3821 or 510-239-7950. Anyone with video or pictures that might assist in the investigation may email them to [email protected].
