The Italian media is all over this caper: One of the 27 designer dresses that Lauren Sanchez donned over her three-day wedding extravaganza in Venice has gone missing.
As the Daily Mail reported, the missing dress isn’t the lacy, surprisingly modest, high-necked Dolce & Gabbana gown that the former TV journalist wore for the actual wedding ceremony with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. It’s apparently another dress that the usually cleavage-forward former TV personality wore over the three days that she and her billionaire husband took over Venice and used the ancient Italian city as their “playground,” as protesters said.
The Daily Mail said the dress has been missing since the ceremony, which took place on San Giorgio Maggiore island last Friday. Even though Sanchez and Bezos were already legally married in the United States, they made a show of exchanging vows on the island, in front of an array rich and famous guests. As critics said, these guests included some of “the worst people on the planet,” including Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Gayle King, Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom and Sydney Sweeney.
From the Daily Mail report, it sounds like the missing dress was one that she wore that day, either before or after the ceremony. There’s no doubt that Sanchez changed into another more party-friendly gown for her reception, as has become the norm for brides into wedding excess.
The Daily Mail dismissed earlier reports that the dress was stolen by an “elegantly dressed” wedding crasher who was able to make it through security on San Giorgio Maggiore island, then was “kindly escorted out.” The Daily Mail said those reports were not true. Also, no police reports have been filed, suggesting that the billionaire couple want to handle the possible theft internally.
Throughout her three-day, $20 million wedding festivities, Sanchez made sure to be photographed getting on and off wedding taxis in a number of dazzling, designer gowns. The fact that the number adds up to 27 might give rom-com fans a thrill, as it’s reminiscent of the 2008 film, “27 Dresses,” in which Katherine Heigl plays a woman who is always the bridesmaid — a total of 27 times — before her luck changes.
Of course, Sanchez would never be in that kind of sidekick position, as she always appears eager to be the center of attention. During the three days, she notably posed for photographers, wearing an eye-catching Schiaparelli dress that featured a corseted bodice that pinched in her waist and an off-the-shoulder neckline with hand-embroidered flowers.
