Photos: Danville’s annual Fourth of July Parade celebrates its 50th year

Thousands of spectators gathered in downtown Danville to celebrate 249 years of freedom during the annual Fourth of July parade along San Ramon Valley Boulevard and Hartz Avenue on Friday morning. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Fourth of July Parade organized by the Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley.

Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, Danville Mayor Renee Morgan, and other elected officials participated in the patriotic parade. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, vintage war vehicles including a “Huey” helicopter, law enforcement and emergency first responders, Boy Scout clubs, cheerleaders, and marching bands were some of many participants that delighted the large crowd of parade observers. Based on the parade registrations, 110 registered groups participated with 2200 parade participants and 165 vehicles, according to Kent Screechfield, Parade Co-chair with the Kiwanis Club of San Ramon Valley.

The weather was also a star, with perfectly sunny skies on this 4th of July holiday.
