The project adds curb, gutter, sidewalks, planter strips and bike lanes along Shannon Road between Los Gatos Boulevard and East La Chiquita Avenue. Once complete, the town anticipates the roadway to have flatter slopes and a smoother surface for all users.

The work in this phase will include roadway excavation, asphalt overlay and new striping for Class II buffered bike lanes. Class II bike lanes are usually striped, but the buffers are designed to prevent drivers from crossing into the bike lane prematurely.

There will be traffic lane closures, but detours will be provided for drivers, bikers and pedestrians. “No Parking” signs will be posted 72 hours before construction starts. Residents can expect noise, dust, odors and traffic delays.

Construction is taking place Monday -Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Shannon Road was previously closed for repairs in August 2023 after the town settled a lawsuit with the county alleging botched repairs to the road.

Cultural celebration

More than 50 years after opening the Machu Picchu Gallery of the Americas in Los Gatos, Olga Enciso Smith is hosting La Peña de la Unidad, a cultural gathering on July 18–19  in downtown San Jose, where her gallery is currently located.

The event will feature artist talks, film, photography, and a family marketplace highlighting handcrafted goods that reflect the spirit and purpose of the gallery’s mission. At the heart of the exhibition is a Shipibo textile from the Peruvian rainforest—painted using natural plant dyes and brushes made from the artist’s own hair.

The event runs 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18, and 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at Citadel Art Studios, 199 Martha St., Downtown San José. Admission is $10 at the door and free for children under age 12.
