Today, July 18, the shops will mark the  8-8 with a special deal. Buy any dozen doughnuts at regular price and get a dozen Original Glazed for just 88 cents. You can get a second dozen for that price too, while supplies last.

The promotion is valid at all locations. Bay Area shops in San Jose, Santa Clara, Union City, Fremont, Mountain View, Concord, Brentwood, Daly City and Vacaville stay open until 10 or 11 p.m.

The chain was founded in 1937 by a man named Vernon Rudolph who enticed customers with the aroma of freshly made doughnuts. The shops still sport signs noting when the doughnuts are hot and fresh.
