Anderson was arrested July 22 after he allegedly choked the victim in a hotel room on East 12th Street in Oakland, then stole a $200 battery charger and left. The woman reported that she and Anderson met at a Starbucks last year and that she was already a prostitute when they met, authorities said.
Police say they found evidence the woman was putting up prostitution ads and making $1,000 per day, which she allegedly provided to Anderson. On the day of the alleged assault, Anderson reportedly had two rooms at the Oakland hotel registered in his name.
The hotel was America’s Best Value Inn, the same venue where other alleged sex or prostitution-related crimes have taken place in recent memory. A 12-year-old girl was reportedly sexually abused there last year, and last April, a pimp and prostitute allegedly robbed a man there. More recently, two teen girls who were allegedly being trafficked fought, leading to one stabbing the other. When police responded, they realized that both were listed as missing persons and arrested their suspected exploiter.
