SF Giants continue selling by trading Doval to New York Yankees

A day after trading longtime reliever Tyler Rogers to the New York Mets, the Giants have traded one-time All-Star closer Camilo Doval to the New York Yankees, according to multiple reports.

The team has yet to announce the move.

With Doval and Rogers gone, All-Star Randy Rodríguez stands to take over as the Giants’ closer. This season, Rodríguez has a 1.20 ERA over 45 innings with 62 strikeouts.

Doval, 28, spent the entirety of his professional career with the Giants dating back to when he signed with the team as an international free agent in October 2015. Over five seasons, Doval had a 3.29 ERA and totaled 107 saves, the seventh-most in Giants history. This season, Doval has a 3.09 ERA over 46 2/3 innings with 15 saves.

The right-hander emerged as the Giants’ closer at the tail end of the 2021 season, then held that role down for most of the next four season. Doval lost the closer role last August when he was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, but stepped back into the role this season amidst Ryan Walker’s struggles.
