SF Shakes brings ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’ to Redwood City

Shakespeare’s ‘Gentlemen’

San Francisco Shakespeare Festival is bringing its Free Shakespeare in the Park to Redwood City. This summer SF Shakes is staging “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” on Saturdays and Sundays, Aug. 9-24, at Red Morton Park, 1455 Madison Ave. All shows begin at 6 p.m.

Shakespeare’s comedy is being given a more contemporary setting in this adaptation, in which two young men journey from a small Midwestern town to California, where they are seduced by the possibilities of love, success and reinvention.

The show runs for 90 minutes with no intermission. No reservations or tickets are required, and all seating is general and available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, visit https://www.redwoodcity.org/shakespeare.

Friends book sale

The Friends of the Mountain View Library are holding a book sale Aug. 9-10 to help fund library programs. The sale will be in held the garage behind the Mountain View Public Library on Mercy Street.

Each sale usually features more than 5,000 books, DVDs, CDs, videos and games, most of which are $1 or less.

The sale opens Saturday at  9:30 am for Friends members and runs 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. for the general public. Sunday’s bag sale runs 11 a.m.-4 p.m., when shoppers can take home a grocery bag of items for $5.
