A person died early Wednesday in a fiery crash on an East Bay highway that closed down a transition ramp, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 3:10 a.m. on northbound Highway 13 just north of Interstate 580, the CHP said. Few details were available but initial reports confirmed by the CHP indicated the vehicle caught fire and that the blaze spread into some trees.
Fire crews put out the fires.
In the aftermath, the CHP closed down the transition between northbound Highway 13 and westbound I-580 until about 6:40 a.m.
