OAKLAND — A man was killed and five other people were wounded in a series of shootings between Saturday afternoon and early Sunday across the city, authorities said.
Police made an arrested in the fatal shooting. Authorities do not believe at this time that the shootings are related.
The fatal shooting happened about 2:05 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of Aileen Street in North Oakland. An unidentified man was found shot outside. He died at the scene.
A man in his 60s was later arrested as a suspect, police said. His name has not been released and police have not yet said how he was linked to the shooting.
Investigators have not yet provided a motive for the killing or said if the two men knew each other.
The killing is the 42nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. At this time last year, police had investigated 56 homicides in the city.
About 6:08 p.m., a 26-year-old woman was shot outside in the 2600 block of 66th Avenue in East Oakland.
Initial reports were that the woman was hit by a stray bullet fired during an exchange of gunfire between other people. She was in stable condition at a hospital.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
Around 10:41 p.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old Newark man was shot outside near the intersection of 14th and Madison streets across from the main public library. He was in stable condition at a hospital.
Initial reports were that the man was shot after getting into an argument with another person. A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
At about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, a 43-year-old Oakland man was shot in the 10600 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
The man told police he was outside when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot. He got his own transportation to a hospital and was in stable condition.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation and police are trying to determine if the man was the intended target. No arrests have been made.
And at about 2:43 a.m. Sunday a 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, both from Sacramento, were shot in the 1300 block of Lakeshore Avenue next to Lake Merritt, authorities said.
Initial reports were that they were shot by at least one other person who fled before police responded.
Both were taken to a hospital and were in stable condition.
Police were told the pair was in a relationship but why they were in Oakland was not immediately known.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
