SAN DIEGO — Landen Roupp was carted off the field in the middle of the Giants’ Wednesday night matchup against the San Diego Padres after being hit by a comebacker and then appearing to tweak his left knee while falling down.
In the bottom of the third, the Padres’ Ramon Laureano hit a 95.7 mph line drive that deflected off Roupp’s right hamstring. As Roupp tried to dodge the line drive, he stumbled and took a step that caused his left knee to extend back.
Roupp immediately collapsed to the ground in pain, trying to rise back to his feet but falling back to the ground. He was quickly tended to by the Giants’ medical staff. Following several minutes on the ground, Roupp was carted off the field.
Left-hander Joey Lucchesi took Roupp’s place on the mound.
Roupp, 26, was making his second start back from the injured list after dealing with right elbow inflammation. He has a 3.63 ERA over 22 starts this season.
