Volunteers sought for National Voter Registration Day

Get out the voters

The League of Women Voters of Cupertino-Sunnyvale is inviting residents to think nationally and help out locally on National Voter Registration Day.

The league needs volunteers to help at its voter registration and information table on Sept. 16 at the Cupertino Library.

Visit https://bit.ly/3UuWkrQ to sign up for a shift to help with voter registration, voter education and spreading the word about the league. Training will be provided. For questions, email Pam at [email protected].

Bell ringing for peace

Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister Cities, Inc. hosted its sixth annual Bell Ringing for World Peace ceremony on Aug. 6. Speakers included Mayor Liang Chao, Deputy Consul General Takashi Ishihara, Cupertino Union School District Superintendent Stacy Yao and Vihaan Shah, representing this year’s student delegation.

NorCal Cherry Blossom Festival Queen Program Princess Nanami Sugimoto, a Cupertino resident, presented a handcrafted senbazuru (a thousand origami cranes), symbolizing hope and renewal as participants reaffirmed their wishes for lasting peace.

CADRE of volunteers

Collaborating Agencies’ Disaster Relief Effort, or CADRE, launched its Community Support Networks for Resilience Project this month, aimed at recruiting 1,000 volunteers over age 55 to help establish 20 discipline-specific community support networks in Santa Clara County.

These networks will be designed to build the capacity of organizations that work in or serve key areas of the community, including access and equity, animal welfare, business and employment, environmental challenges, health services, operations and social support.

Sponsored by AmeriCorps’ Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Community Support Networks are designed to establish pre-emergency awareness and communication processes that will be leveraged when the next disaster strikes.

Volunteers will be tasked, both virtual and in person, with helping build these networks and with local emergency planning efforts.

For more information becoming a CADRE volunteer, email [email protected].
