Concord woman busted for allegedly escaping deputies through hospital bathroom window

MARTINEZ — She went out through the bathroom window, and evaded deputies who searched the hospital grounds for any trace of her.

But now this 27-year-old Concord resident is in jail, being held without bail, after picking up a felony escape charge, court records show.

It all started Aug. 21, as a seemingly routine check-in with a woman who was serving a jail sentence for burglary and petty theft, but had been allowed to enter a custody alternative program by the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office. The program gives typically lower-level offenders a chance to avoid jail, but has requirements similar to probation, like passing a drug test.

That’s where things went south. Police say the woman failed a drug test and was informed she was going to be booked into jail. Deputies first transported her to a Martinez hospital to deal with a medical issue and allowed her to use the restroom. Several minutes later, they realized she made a run for it through the window.

Police continued their search for the woman until Aug. 22, when she was located and arrested by Walnut Creek police, court records show. On Tuesday, prosecutors charged her with a felony count of escape.
