Trendy retailer closing Bay Area stores – which ones are still open

Popular teen accessories and ear-piercing outlet Claire’s, which announced earlier this month they are filing for Chapter 11, has begun shuttering stores in the Bay Area.

This is the second time the chain has filed for bankruptcy since 2018 citing large debt load and fierce competition from online retailers.

Crowds are flocking to two of the mall-based outlets that are touting mass liquidation sales of as much as 80 percent off. These include:

— Bay Street, Emeryville

— Newpark Mall, Newark

But it you want a deal, better hurry. Stores are planning to shut down for good on Sept. 7. Over the weekend the Emeryville store had long lines of customers purchasing 10 jewelry and accessory items for $10. If you need ear piercing, however, you’ll have to visit one of the other stores that remain open.

List of Claire’s stores still open in the Bay Area:

— Eastridge Mall, San Jose

— Hillsdale Shopping Center, San Mateo

— San Francisco Premium Outlets, Livermore

— Sand Creek Crossing, Brentwood

— Searramonte Center, Daly City

— Southland Mall, Hayward

— Stoneridge Mall, Pleasanton

— Sunvalley Shopping Center, Concord

— Westfield Oakridge Mall, San Jose

— Westfield Valley Fair Mall, Santa Clara
